In Brattleboro, the Retreat Meadows on Route 30 is frozen over each year and dotted with fishing shacks. There is often a cleared area right next to the road that makes for some wonderful skating. If you prefer something less “wild”, Grafton Ponds offers skating as well as tubing and snow shoeing. The Memorial Park has a rink open to the public just on the other side of the Creamery covered bridge in Brattleboro on Route 9. Remember that skating on open water can expose you to thin ice that is very dangerous. Be aware of the conditions of the day! |
